Product Description:

This book is packed with information covering a wide variety of topics to interest the traditional archer. Topics include: selecting or ordering your first traditional bow, taking care of the equipment, tuning for best performance; making arrows for field, flight and target use, including footings and fletchings; making flatbows, longbows and primitive styles including Meare Heath and cable-backed bows, and making flemish strings and thumbrings.

This book is mainly intended for those interested in traditional English longbows, flatbows, primitive bows, selfbows and hunting-style recurves, and who literally shoot barebow, i.e. without any sight or stabilising attachment on their bow. “Instinctive shooting” refers to the technique of shooting without any sights, the main style adopted being to anchor the draw at the side of the face, and to shoot with a canted bow.

Hilary Greenland is a professional Bowyer and Fletcher who has been making and shooting bows for over 20 years; she is a member of the Craft Guild of Traditional Bowyers and Fletchers in England. In 1992 she founded the Society for the Promotion of Traditional Archery and runs events, competitions and workshops to encourage participation in making and shooting traditional archery equipment. She is a frequent contributor of articles to Primitive Archer Magazine.
